Whitney Stus

My mission is to create places where people can thrive, this is achieved through an emphasis on biophilic design practices, while using a holistic approach. I have curated an intentionally small-scale design studio that allows me to provide a highly personalized collaborative service.
Join me on a journey to reimagine what living spaces can be. At WS Interiors, I sculpt environments that epitomize the harmonious relationship between humans and the natural world, celebrating the beauty that lies both within and around us. I believe that every space has a unique story waiting to be told.
-
Rooted in the principles of biophilia, my design philosophy centers on the idea that humans have an innate need to connect, with themselves, others and their environments. I harnesses the restorative power of natural elements, integrating organic textures, patterns, and materials to transform indoor spaces into serene sanctuaries. I believe that by bringing the outdoors in, we create living environments that not only captivate the eye but also nurture the soul.

Guiding Principles
-
This is achieved in various ways that include direct experience of nature, representation of nature or a connection to place and culture. Most of us spend up to 90% of our time indoors so it's essential to design those spaces with intention in order to promote positive health & wellbeing. It's one thing to design a space that is aesthetically pleasing and on trend but it is paramount to strive toward a design that consciously benefits the end user where people feel happier, healthier and are more productive. Studies show multiple health benefits from integrating biophilic design, which include stress reduction and lowered blood pressure, improved cognitive function as well as improved concentration and motivation.
-
I consider not only the visual aspects of design but also its impact on psychological, physical, and spiritual well-being. My collaborated creations are purposefully aligned with the principles of balance and harmony, fostering spaces that serve as sanctuaries for the mind, body, and soul. As a certified design professional it is my social responsibility to also consider important aspects like environmental toxins, sustainability & geographical context. Having an awareness of the potential harmful off-gassing emissions found in products and materials and its negative impact it can have on ones health. Also having a general understanding of which products are more sustainable than others based on many factors such as origin, manufacturing processes, certifications and overall carbon footprint.
We are fortunate to have abundant resources and diverse local, skilled artisans on Vancouver Island that enable us the opportunity to not only support local but to also reduce our negative impact on our environment.
